Dear Volunteer: It is with pleasure that I welcome you to a fine group of individuals, serving a very important role. The Volunteer Program of SafeSpace, Inc. is a voluntary group, dedicated to supporting the mission of SafeSpace and thereby helping victims of domestic violence. It is an organized group, with its chair sitting on the SafeSpace Board of Directors, guidelines (policies and procedures), and a working committee structure. There are four committees that members can choose from and participation in as many committees as is possible is highly encouraged. There are two types of membership in The Volunteer Program of SafeSpace; active and non-voting members. Active members pay yearly dues of $30, which pay for the expenses of the group and an official nametag. Non-voting members pay no dues, but fully participate and attend all functions. Some of the activities the group is now involved in include supporting the Thrift Shoppe and planning Special Events. We have a volunteer orientation the first Tuesday of every month if you would like to attend and learn more about what our volunteers do. Some volunteers want to get even more involved with SafeSpace and choose to participate in one of the many volunteer opportunities at the Shelters. In order to volunteer at the shelter the following requirements need to be completed per the Florida statutes; 30 hours of training, background check and drug screening. Some volunteer activities are answering our hotlines, going to court with victims, and helping with the children during group time. SafeSpace, Inc. needs volunteers. Without your help, we would not be able to provide the quality of services the victims and their children need. There are many options available to you.
