We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the members of Impact100 Martin for selecting SafeSpace as an Impact100 award recipient.
Project and summary of grant awarded.
The award of $100,000 from Impact100 Martin enabled us to renovate our current garage located on Shelter property to become a trauma-informed care Outreach Center. A trauma-informed design addresses how the physical environment affects individuals physiologically and emotionally. This model creates a supportive environment that helps prevent re-traumatization.
We created a space that serves to facilitate educational and group support sessions, a small children’s area, two confidential office spaces, a restroom, and a copy and office supplies area.
How did Impact funds awarded lead to additional grants of funding to improve or complete the original project?
The Impact100 grant served as a catalyst to secure additional grants and services from Home Depot and Mariner Sands Charity Week to assist with furnishing the inside and outside of the building.
What is the impact/results that the project is having on the local community?
We are so very proud of the work that our outreach advocates do, and this project has provided dedicated office space for our outreach advocates to be able to meet with survivors in a safe confidential space. The space will serve hundreds of survivors of domestic violence that seek our support every year, in transitioning into an independent life free of violence.
